Dual usages makes the kids more interested in playing with the toy and using the toy, and it also gives parents a better value for their dollar.

How Can a Pet Improve Your Quality of Life and Why Should You Adopt One?

How Can a Pet Improve Your Quality of Life and Why Should You Adopt One?

For most of us, a four legged friend is a great companion to come home to, pet, someone to go running with, and give attention. And who doesn’t love the dog licking us or cat playfully biting our ankles as we walk by? For those that had an animal growing up, I’m sure you have a couple of fun stories about feeding them your veggies under the dinner table.

So, what can a pet do for you? Why is adopting a pet so important and how can it really improve the quality of your life? Sadly, during the recession, so many people can’t continue to have pets due to the big financial responsibility they are. Because so many animals are put in the local shelters, there are so many more good reasons for those able to adopt a pet to adopt.

I know what some of you are probably thinking. An animal is a big responsibility. And they are a big responsibility. They cost a lot of money- vet visits, pet supplies, and food just to name a few. Pets, especially dogs, also require a lot of attention. However, for those that own animals, they know that the time, energy, love, and money that are put into the care of animals are definitely worth it.

For starters, it’s been proven that pets can improve our quality of life dramatically by lowering blood pressure and stress levels. There have also been many instances where an untrained animal was able to detect some deadly illnesses like cancerous lumps that were not found previously. A trained animal is especially good to have around if you have a serious medical condition, like epilepsy.

Personally, when I am feeling low or if I just have a bad day, having an animal around is good for improving my mood. I am sure every other pet owner can attest to this. While some anti- pet people out there would say that having a pet around is a bad idea because humans need something to control (yes, I’ve unfortunately heard this argument before). I would say that is just not the case for most pet owners. Having a pet around me is not about controlling something, but for me, it is about having the unconditional love and playfulness that a pet will give you.

The unconditional love of a pet is a great thing for those that have suffered from many abusive situations. Whether or not it’s true, perhaps you heard of how Jaycee Dugard and her daughters had ‘horse therapy’ to help her cope with her new situation. What is certain, though, is that animals are great for emotional support. Animals are also great for other kinds of therapy; for example, as a treatment for aspergers’ syndrome.

Having a pet doesn’t have to be limited to smaller animals for novices. Horses can be a good past time for those interested in larger animals. Owning a horse may seem intimidating, but stables offer a place to house them and can even teach you how to take care of them. Horses are great for riding, getting around on, and competitions of all sorts. The best part is, depending on where you live, horses can be available to those just looking for riding lessons and not having to deal with the hassles of owning one.

Animals are great to have around your house for other reasons as well. If you have children, having a pet around can be a good way to help them develop. Kids will learn how to interact with animals, and in some circumstances, learn … READ MORE ...

Roundworms In Puppies

Roundworms In Puppies

There are five types of worms that can be found in puppies. Among the five types of worms, roundworms are the most common. Roundworms are circular and tubular in shape. Generally they are 2-4 inches in size but it can grow up to 7 inches in a short period of time. There are two common types of roundworms: Toxascaris leonina and Toxacara canis.

Roundworms are parasites that are passed to the puppy in the womb through egg or larvae. They can also be passed to the puppies though the milk of the mother. Aside from this, puppies can also get roundworms if they get close to the feces of an animal with the said parasite or through the feces of their mother. Consuming prey infected with roundworms can make the puppies acquire the infection as well. The larvae moves through the liver, then to the muscles, then to the lungs and then to the puppies’ intestines where they feed on the partially digested food.

Puppies encounter difficulty in swallowing and urinating if they get infected with roundworms. You will know if your dog’s puppies are infected with roundworms if they suffer from frequent vomiting, diarrhea, dull hair, weight loss, lack of appetite, weight gain in the belly, slow growth and problems while passing stools. If roundworms are not detected on time, it can result to the puppies’ death.

If the puppy is 3 weeks old, de-worming is then required because the puppies might have been infected by roundworms because its body resistance is low. Seek the advice of the veterinarian first before starting with any treatment as it may cause side effects on puppies. The common medicines to control roundworms are Fendendaole, Pyrantel and Piperazine. The puppies can develop resistance to any infection starts when they are already about 6 months old.

The puppy’s stool will have to undergo microscopic examination before the veterinarian can give recommendation about the medication needed by the puppy. During the treatment process, the roundworms are not totally killed for medications only allow the puppy to remove the roundworm from its body through its stool. Treatment should be continued for at least two months for roundworm larvae may still be present inside the puppy’s intestines.

On the treatment for roundworms, homeopathy is considered to be a safe procedure. You can get rid of the roundworms in the puppies’ intestines by mixing 2 cloves of garlic with 2 teaspoons of oat barns or grated carrots. Ensure the garlic is chopped. Keep the area where the puppies do their bowel movement clean by mixing 1% of bleach with water. Through this, you can remove the roundworms’ eggs sticky outer coating. Treating the roundworm infection on your puppies can be quite a task so it is best to follow the steps of proper dog care to keep the symptoms from arising again. Regularly check your puppy’s body to see if there are changes or presence of other kinds of parasites.

Disinfect and maintain proper cleanliness of the surrounding. Never leave dog food open for a long time. Instead, dispose it if your dog doesn’t want to eat it. You can also deworm your dog during the last stages of her pregnancy to help lessen the infestation. Remember to deworm your puppy. Dispose your puppy’s feces properly and refrain from bringing your puppy to places where other dogs defecate. Remember that dog worms can also infect humans so proper puppy care and hygiene should be followed. … READ MORE ...
